Removing old antifouling paint isn't the most fun task.

Removing old antifouling paint isn't the most fun task. It usually involves toxic chemicals and
hours of messy sanding; however, you can simplify the task with Pettit's Bio-Blast (79.99,
www.pettitpaint.com), which removes
antifouling paint in a single application. Apply it to the hull with a paintbrush or airless
sprayer. As it penetrates the paint layers, it lifts them from the surface, where they can be
easily removed with a metal scraper. Bio-Blast replaces chemical strippers but won't damage the
gelcoat. According to Pettit, it works equally well at removing varnishes, lacquers and marine
enamels.
