Mitsubishi is going bigger with the redesigned full-size Mitsubishi Montero XLS. That means more interior space, a result of the new body/chassis structure that's increased the wheelbase to 109.5 inches and the width to 73.9 inches. Factor in that the Montero's height has been reduced by almost two inches, to 73.1 inches, while the ground clearance has been raised to 9.3 inches, and you have an SUV that's more stable, with more room and better off-road capability. The revised Mitsubishi 3.5L single overhead cam (SOHC) V6 under the hood and the ActiveTrac four-wheel drive system combine to provide sure footing and steady power in any conditions, even on steep, slippery launch ramps.

The Montero XLS interior could be used as a primer for designers looking to learn how to make the most of a given space. The third rear bench seat doesn't fold forward as in most SUVs, but down and into a storage well under the deck so that it completely vanishes.
