Steering Clear With SeaClear
Boaters in need of navigation software need look no further than SeaClear, a PC-based chart
plotting and GPS navigation application available free of charge — subject to certain terms and
conditions — from
www.sping.com/seaclear.
When connected with a GPS, SeaClear displays current speed, position and heading on screen;
and provides automatic screen updates as charts are repositioned or added. The software uses raster
charts and can use most BSB/KAP version 1-3 and GEO/NS commercial charts.
SeaClear software also saves tracks for later viewing. Logbook entries may be manually or
automatically entered. Routes and waypoints may be created within the program to assist with
navigation; they may also be exported to supporting NMEA devices.
SeaClear is compatible with Windows 95 and up, but is most suitable for use with Windows
2000/XP/Vista. GPS systems must be able to transmit NMEA 0183 1.5 and above messages. SeaClear also
supports virtual serial ports such as USB GPS units with serial drivers.
