Powerboating Courses Help Women Make Sense Of The Sea
by Jennifer Dennard
Sea Sense Inc., “The Women’s Sailing & Powerboating School,” will offer two week long courses
next month in the Washington State area to give female boaters a comfortable, supportive
environment in which to learn entry- and intermediate-level boating skills.
Each live-aboard course will be taught on board a fully-equipped 44-foot twin-engine
powerboat from which participants will learn boat handling in open water, navigation, close
quarters maneuvering, docking, anchoring, mooring, basic engine maintenance, line handling, knots,
and man-overboard prevention and recovery. Newly learned skills will be put to the test as a new
harbor is navigated each day.
The Puget Sound class ($2,795) will be held May 12-16, 2008; while the San Juan Islands class
($3,195) will be held Aug. 10-16, 2008. Tuition includes course work, accommodations, mooring fees
and most provisions.
