For 2007, Kawasaki has introduced two new three-passenger watercraft, the Ultra 250X and the Ultra LX. The Ultra 250X sports a beefy 250-hp engine that makes it the highest-horsepower PWC on the market by more than 10 percent. A high-volume, direct-drive supercharger delivers virtually instant boost at any engine speed from idle to near full throttle, and the result is a craft with smooth acceleration burst throughout the speed range. A 155mm jet pump, which features the largest PWC impeller and nozzle that Kawasaki has ever produced, also contributes to the heightened performance. But beyond sheer muscle, the 250X's hull has been specially designed to increase stability and enhance handling to match the craft's performance. The 22.5-degree deep-V hull, for instance, is designed to smooth out the ride in rough water. Other key features include a five-step adjustable handlebar position, a massive 53-gallon detachable front storage compartment and a 20.6-gallon fuel tank. The $11,499 price is on the high side but in line with other PWCs in the ultra-high-performance category. Enthusiasts with an eye on top-end acceleration who also want a few comfort-friendly amenities will definitely want to check it out.
