Celebrate Migratory Bird Day Next Month Around The U.S.

by Jennifer Dennard

Nature-lovers will have plenty of opportunities to celebrate the International Migratory Bird Day in May, when a number of wildlife refuges across the country host special events to commemorate the occasion.

Organized by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the day pays homage to the journeys birds from around the world take between their summer and winter habitats.

The theme of this year’s celebration is "Tundra to Tropics: Connecting Birds, Habitats and People."

Wetland management districts, fish hatcheries and wildlife refuges taking part will highlight the birds, their habitats, and the people and organizations involved in the conservation of both. They include:
DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge in Iowa
Truston Pont National Wildlife Refuge in Rhode Island
J.N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge and the Naples Zoo in Florida
Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge in Virginia
Great Dismal Swamp Birding Festival in Virginia
National Bison Range in Montana
Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge in Minnesota
Windom Wetland Management District in Minnesota
Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge in New Mexico
Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge in California
Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge in Delaware
Necedah National Wildlife Refuge in Wisconsin
