Tigé Z1

G
aining a foothold in the fiercely competitive 21-foot wakeboard boat market is a tough
proposition, but Tigé’s Z1 manages to find an edge with a number of best-in-class features.
The new Z1 has a beam of 8 feet 4 inches, making it roomier than most direct-drive
competitors, while also providing extra storage space. There’s space for wakeboards in the
companion console and in the storage space next to the engine.
The Razor-edge styling — a confluence of sharp lines and pointed angles — also delivers a
futuristic, head-turning profile. Add to that comfy, soft-seating, 12 cup holders, Tigé captain’s
chair with a flip-up bolster, and a large swim platform “activity center,” and the boat has dock
appeal both inside and out.
But the Z1 is more than just a pretty face. Its patented ConvexV hull has a unique curve, and
when combined with TAPS2 wake-control system, it performs well in many different situations —
whether it be as a family ski boat or a tricked-out wakeboard machine. The Z1 tracks nicely,
straight and true, while turning sharply without any sense of skittishness. The forward part of the
bow runs high out of the water, with the stern firmly planted, so the boat pops over oncoming waves
rather than crashing through them. The Z1 also has a boatload of strong standard features available
at a reasonable price. The options list is also extensive, including Tigé Speedset Cruise Control,
two different collapsible wakeboard towers with swivel board racks, pull-up cleats, and much more.
The four engine choices range from a 315-hp, 5.7L carbureted GM Vortec to a 360-hp, 5.7L GM
Vortec with multiport EFI. Two 320-hp and 340-hp EFI models make up the midrange power offerings.
