Mercury MerCruiser's New Control System Offers Precision Piloting

By Jennifer Dennard

The new Axius Control System from Mercury MerCruiser offers precise control and navigation, all at the touch of a joystick. The system utilizes twin MerCruiser Bravo Three sterndrives, a digital throttle and shift, and electronic/hydraulic steering system to enable an operator to move a boat 360 degrees in any direction.

The joystick responds to pressure applied and direction, providing precise control over thrust from idle up to speeds of 7 knots. When engaged, the system’s docking mode reduces joystick control by half, enabling an operator to make even more precise docking maneuvers under a range of conditions.

The Axius system is also available with a Plus Piloting package that includes such additional features as Auto Heading software that allows the operator to maintain course and make exact corrections; VesselView software that displays vessel and engine stats; and Advanced Auto Yaw Control, which holds the bow of the boat at a precise heading.

The Axius Control System is available with 260- to 425-hp engine models — all coupled with Bravo Three sterndrives — and MerCruiser’s protective SeaCore system.
