When you're out at sea and need some navigational guidance, a reliable tool is key. GPS units can definitely do the job but are useless if their batteries are dead or there's a power outage. Coming to your rescue are Davis Instruments' Mark 15 and Mark 25 sextants that provide readings to 2/10ths of a degree. The Mark 25 has a special mineral coating that allows you to see the horizon in one color and a star or sun in another. The Mark 15 has seven large sunshades and a star scope with anti-reflective glass lenses. Prices start at $195.
